Season Starts September 7th!
Submitted By Peter Singfield on Friday, September 3, 2021

All Fully Registered Crusaders will start skating the week of September 7th!
The learn to skate program will start the first week of October.

This season is going to be different than any previous year with all the challenges that Covid has introduced.

We would usually have our teams established by this point in the season, but with new Hockey Canada and Ministry of Health regulations the team selection process has been pushed back to the end of September to early October.

This doesn’t mean we can’t get skating though!  There has been a huge demand for getting the kids out on the ice to build up their conditioning and wake up those dormant hockey skills.

The Durham Crusaders are happy to announce our September schedule is now available on our website.  The first ice time is Tuesday, September 7th and all registered players (both Rep and LL) will be on the ice for their first skate by Friday, September 10th.  You should have received an email letting you know when your first ice time was.  If you did not, please let us know:  EMAIL THE CRUSADERS

Please make sure your player has all the equipment they need to get out there and have some fun.  Get those skates sharpened and sticks taped!

For U13 Peewee and U15 Bantam we have divided the players into group Blue and Green.  These are not the teams, these are just the assigned groups for all the conditioning / skill development skates.  U18 Midget have been grouped together, if more U18 players register we may also split this age group into two groups.  U11 Atom age players will initially be grouped with the U13 Peewee until more have registered at which point they will get their own designated ice time.

The skates between September 7th – September 26th will primarily be focused on building up player’s conditioning as some kids have been off the ice for an extended amount of time.  There will be plenty of fun activities going on too, make sure you make it out to these early skates.  All the exercise and effort that gets put into the sessions in September will pay off huge when the season starts in October.

For those players interested in trying out for one of our Rep teams, we are planning on hosting two sets of tryouts.  The first will be the last week of September and the second set will be in the first week of October.  We are just waiting on our ice allocation from the town of Whitby at which point we’ll be able to publish the dates and times.

Once the tryouts complete in early October the rosters will be set and teams will be established.  Shortly after we will start playing games with the Victoria Durham (Rep) and Three County (LL) centers.  More information on how the season is going to look will be published as it becomes available.  The current plan is for full 5 on 5 hockey games; however, this could change if restrictions are put in place by the Ministry of Health in response to Covid numbers.

All of our ice times in September will be at Whitby arenas, so we will be following Whitby’s Covid safety regulations to ensure our players, bench staff and spectators are as safe as possible.  See below for full details.

We can’t wait to see everyone back on the ice!
