The Durham Crusaders Novice team headed off to Brighton on a very cold -26 degree morning to face off against the top House League and LL teams from Whitby, Orono and Brighton.
The tournament started off well with a 6 – 0 victory over Whitby, followed by a strong performance against the local Brighton team with a 7 – 1 victory.
The championship battle was set to be against Orono, who had also defeated Whitby and Brighton with more goals scored for, but also more goals scored against that our Crusader team. The final game was shaping up to be a great match.
The game started, and the Crusaders couldn’t contain the speedy forwards of Orono and they took an early lead that the Crusaders weren’t able to come back from despite a strong third period.
Throughout the tournament, our Novice team showcased the amazing skill and team play that our organization has become famous for. Quick, frequent passes, good positional play and points coming from every line and position drew appreciative comments from many of the spectators.
We would like to thank the Brighton organization for hosting this excellent tournament. The venue and staff were fantastic and accommodating. We look forward to returning next year and hopefully get a chance to battle with Orono again for the championship!
