Silver Medal Finalists at Bob Black
This year’s Bob Black tournament gave your U11 Durham Crusaders an opportunity to host competition from across the province on home turf at Delpark Homes Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. Despite the region being overcome by the snowstorm of the year, teams travelled from Ottawa, London, and Barrie, Ontario to name a few.
Durham Blue kicked things off in the round robin tournament with a 15-1 rout of the Fort Henry Paladins. The Crusaders would finish their games in PoolA with a record of 4-0; sporting a goal differential +32 (37-5).
Sunday morning’s semi-finals were greeted by the weekend’s heaviest snowfall. Teams braved slick, snowy roads for 7:45am puck drop. Barrie Colts beat the Apsley Flames 2-1 and the Durham Crusaders triumphed against Sturgeon Lake Thunder 9-4.
Your Durham Crusaders suffered a tough defeat in 3v3 overtime, when the Barrie Colts capped off their spirited, third period comeback with a lucky bounce to end the tournament. The final score was 4-3.
The Bob Black tournament featured a number of hometown heroes, with Crusaders teams placing in the finals across multiple age groups. Congratulations to the players and families on their strong showings and a great weekend!
