Wasaga Beach Regional Silver Stick - Semi-Final OT Heartbreak
Green arrived Friday with high hopes of making it deep into the Tournament, and that they did with some stirring performances along the way.  They were pitted against three teams from the Georgian Bay Triangle Local League in the group stage.

Game 1 v. Clearview Canucks (Won 8-1)
A strong performance started the weekend against a Canucks team who had been struggling coming into the weekend.  The game was relatively easy with goals and assists shared out between six teammates and an early 2 points were put up on the board.
Game 2 v. Penetang Flames (Won 4-1)
The strongest team on paper were up second, and the Crusaders were given a stern test, being outshot for the first time this season.  However, Burleau was up to the task making some important saves before a couple of late goals sealed the win and the points that came with it.
Game 3 v. Midland Centennials 2 (Lost 1-3)
Green knew a 2-0 win would have guaranteed first place in the standings and an easier route to the final.  In the third period with a 1-0 lead, Green were in with a shout of doing just that, unfortunately the Centennials scored a fortuitous goal that trickled over the lineand you could see the bubble burst on the bench.
The boys knew that first place was out of sight and conceded two goals in the last 90 seconds to finish the group stage in fourth place and set up a game against our sister team.
Semi-Final v. Durham Crusaders Blue (Lost 4-5 OT)
What a Game!
Both teams came to play, both goalies made some excellent saves, and the quality of hockey on show was fantastic from everyone.  It was a superb advert for Crusader hockey which went all the way to overtime.
Blue struck first, but an instant response from McCall-Muir levelled it up following a Morrison saved shot for an even 1-1 end of first.
Blue scored after 41 seconds of the second period, but again Green levelled it up within 8 seconds when Mellor dissected the team from the face off to slot home. It was Blue who took the lead for a third time on the power play, but within 3 minutes Mellor again stickhandled through the team and goalie to finish with the same backhand as earlier in the period for 3-3.
In the third period, Green finally took the lead when Neath powered forward, and his shot was padded to Mellor who slipped in a third backhand goal to go 4-3 ahead.  Green defended well and went on the power play late on but unfortunately couldn’t hang on and Blue equalized shorthanded with 1m 57s left to play.
Overtime lasted less than a minute before Blue scored the winning goal, in a game that could have gone either way.  Both teams got together for a picture to celebrate such a memorable occasion.
The season continues… …1-2-3 DC!
