Apsley Flames Fall Classic Champions
Our third tournament of the season was a short trip slightly north of Peterborough to Apsley, to compete in the Apsley Flames Fall Classic 2025.  The tournament consisted of four teams from the League of Eastern Ontario (Apsley, Bancroft, Havelock and Lakefield), with three teams from Three County (Durham, Highland and Sturgeon) together with Stirling Blues from the Inter-Community Hockey League.
The format consisted of four Round 1 games with the winners moving onto the Semi-Finals for the A and B Championships and the winner of those games making the A Championship Final.  The team that could win three consecutive games would win the tournament.

GAME 1 v. HAVELOCK HAWKS [WON 9-1]
First up was the Hawks, who came into the game on a run of poor form in their own league.  They started the first period well, and held their own, however we scored a couple of goals in the first period then took the game away from them through the second and third periods.  A hat-trick for Piette, a couple for Mellor and additional goals from Annis, Bowen, Morrison and Siebert resulted in a comfortable first game and progression into the A and B Championship Semi-Finals at 3pm.

SEMI-FINAL v. LAKEFIELD CHIEFS 2 [WON 3-1]
In this game we were pitted against a big strong team in the Chiefs.  It was a very close affair, back and forth, and this was the game when the Neath and Siebert partnership finally came to fruition, with Siebert setting up Neath for two goals and it was the other way around for the third goal.  Good defence with strong desire meant that we restricted them to only 8 shots in the game, with us having 12 at the other end, and the cousins finally working together to see us into the ‘A’ Championship Final and a 7:45pm puck drop.

Following the Semi-Final the whole team made its way back to the Mellor Family Cottage to spend some time bonding, to eat some dinner and to have a drink or two.  It was a good way to relax with a big gap between games, and it allowed the boys to play together outside of the rink.

‘A’ CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL v. BANCROFT JETS [WON 5-0]
For the third time in the day, the boys started slowly being 5-0 down in shots in the first five minutes, but thereafter we took control of the Final and dominated the rest of the way.  We were outshot in the final 17-16 but Burleau was in full control making the saves needed, and two goals from Siebert (including a beautiful slap shot) together with additional goals from Neath, Piette and Wilenski resulted in a comfortable 5-0 win and our second Championship of the season.  The whole team worked hard but it was Burleau grabbing the MVP award for his first shut out of the season.
